Zigong Economy:
Zigong has some established advanced industrial infrastructure: the most comprehensive application of brine, the largest production base for chloromethane in China and the largest combined production of ammonium chloride and soda ash in southwestern China. Salt chemicals, electrical machinery, textiles, food and new building materials are the primary industries. Among the 1,812 industrial enterprises, 49 are state-owned large or medium-sized enterprises. The largest industrial enterprises are the Dongfang Boiler (Group) Co., Ltd., Zigong Cemented Carbide Co., Ltd., Honghe Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Atlantic (Group) Co., Ltd., Sichuan Glass Co., Ltd. and Sichuan Polyester Co., Ltd. These firms have contributed annual export value of over 40 million U.S. dollars, and their products have sold well in over 50 countries.

History:
The city was formed and named in 1939 with the merger of Gongjing, a great salt-producing center since the 7th century AD, and Tzeliutsing. It was reached by rail in 1958 and developed rapidly as an industrial center in the 1960s and 1970s.

Entertainments:
Several old structures survive in Zigong, including two marvellous tea houses where you can gossip, lounge or play cards with locals surrounded by dated furnishings: the not to be missed Wangye Miao, which sits high over the river near the Shawan Binguan on Binjiang Lu; and a former theatre with a beautifully carved stone gateway at the junction of Jiefang Lu and Zhonghua Lu.

Zigong Attractive points:
The Salt Museum
Xiqin Assembly Hall, in which the Salt Museum is located, was built during the Qing Dynasty by merchants from Shaanxi Province. At that time, the hall was called the "Countrymen Assembly Hall". The majestic and spectacular Xiqin Assembly Hall has a design that is refined while the structure itself is odd. Covering an area of over 3000 square meters, the hall combines the palatial architectural art from the Qing Dynasty with folk architectural art. The most noticeable example of the architectural art is an 18 meter high gate-tower with a colorfully carved gate. Other design elements to be enjoyed are the vermilion stone posts supporting four layers of eaves extending from the roof, each eave wider than the one above it. From the middle, the eaves appear as wings with twelve wingtips arched high on each side above the gateway. The Salt Museum's specialty is the collection, studying and display of Chinese well-salt artefacts. One significant display is a unique and treasured collection of over 130 different types of ancient Chinese well-salt drilling tools, represented by 400 individual pieces.
Dinosaur Museum
The Chinese site lies near Da Shanpu County in the east north suburbs of Zigong City of Sichuan Province. It is the first modern specialized dinosaur museum in China. At present, it is the largest and the only dinosaur museum in Asia located at an actual fossil burial site. It has been named the "East Dragon". The Zigong Dinosaur Museum has the world's largest collection of dinosaur fossils from the mid-Jurassic period. It has been named as ¡°One of the forty best and most famous Chinese scenic tour sites¡± by the Chinese national tour bureau. The exterior of the Zigong Dinosaur Museum appears as a huge rock hole but is spectacular and beautiful. It was built along the example of other large-scale specialized locale museums such as the Xi'an Banpo Village Remains Museum and the Museum of the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses. The Zigong Museum covers an area of 25,000 square meters with a display area of 3600 square meters located on three floors. The display is primarily focused on the dinosaur fossils excavated from Da Shanpu.
