The Memorial Tower of Fighting Against the Floods of Songhua River  Harbin

In order to commemorate the glorious victory of fighting against the floods and building the banks, and to award the great achievements of the people, the government built the Memorial tower of Fighting against Floods. Being 22.5 meters high, it was built with stone blocks on the foundation, which represents the imperishability of the riverbanks. The fountain in the front stands for the brave and intelligent people in Harbin who are taming the violent floods and eliminating the catastrophes and bringing happiness to the people. The lower step is marked 119.72 meters above the sea level, which represents the highest water level in 1932 when the floods devastated Harbin. The higher step is marked 120.30 meter above the sea level,representing the highest water level in 1957 when the Harbin people defeated the heavy floods.

In the middle part of the tower are a series of relieves that depict the scenes of the people fighting against the floods and reflect the heroism of the people.

Starting to be built in 1898 and initially called China Street, it was renamed as the Central Avenue and later developed into the most prosperous commercial street in the city. Starting from the Memorial Tower of Fighting against the Floods of Songhua River to the north and extending to the Jingwei Street to the south,

it is 1,450 meters long, 21.34 meters wide, of which 10.8 meters are paved with square stones and were once used by vehicles. There are 71 European style structures as well as 13 structures of Renaissance, Baroque, eclecticism and modern style under protection. This street has incorporated the four most influential styles of western architecture, reflecting the glamorous history of cultural development of nearly 300 years in Europe.
In 1986, the municipal government of Harbin decided to turn the Central Avenue into a street under protection. In August 1996, the government made a decision to renovate it into a pedestrian street. Being 860 meters long, the street has 6 recreational areas, which are beautiful and well arranged. With its unique European style buildings, numerous shops, beautiful recreational area and colorful cultural life, the street has become an important scenic spot in Harbin.

Highway Bridge on Songhua River Harbin

"With the bridge stepping across the south and the north, the great chasm becomes a smooth road." This is the vivid description of this famous scenic spot in Harbin-the Ice City in the north of China. The completion of Songhua River Highway Bridge made it possible for the two sides of the river to be connected together. As a transportation hub linking Harbin with Heihe, Luobei and Manzhouli, it is of great strategic significance in strengthening the exchanges of materials and culture, promoting scientific and technological advancement, developing tourist industry and facilitating economic construction. The building work of this bridge started on May 10, 1983,

and ended on August 30, 1986. It took 40 months to build this scissors-shaped bridge with advanced building techniques and unique structure. Standing at the bridgehead and looking afar, you will see the gorgeous scenery on the Sun Island and the Songhua River running eastward with irresistible force.

Manchurian Tiger Garden Harbin

In order to save and foster the wild Manchurian Tigers, Harbin established Manchurian Tiger Garden, the only and largest natural garden of the Manchurian Tigers. Located in the Songbei Development Zone on the northern bank of Songhua River, Manchurian tiger Garden borders the famous tourist resort-the Sun Island. Of 966,000 square meters in the garden, 360,000 square meters have been open to the public.

There are over 30 adult tigers in the garden. As the largest breeding area of the Manchurian Tiger, the Manchurian tiger Garden, since its opening in January 1996, has received nearly 400,000 tourists.

The Sun Island  Harbin

The transportation is convenient to the Sun Island. Tourists can get here by water, land and air. It is a great enjoyment to tour on Songhua River when the weather is fine. It will be exciting and full of fun to cross the Songhua River on a cable car. Of course, it is much more convenient to cross the river

by land with numerous vehicles coming and going every day. The center of the park is at a water pavilion. About 1,515 square meters, the highlights include a long corridor, a link corridor and a square pavilion built with modern methods of garden making. In the two-storied square pavilion 54 black marble pillars are built.
The Sun Island

The scenery in the garden is composed of artificial lakes and artificial hills. There are 5 inter-linked lakes around the Sun Lake. On the lake are Sister Bridge, Pavilion Bridge, and White Jade Bridge. The elegant willows, the picturesque pavilions and bridges as well as their reflections in the water have constituted most beautiful scenery. There is a three-layer waterfall built in the Sun Hill. The crystal clear water curtain hangs down and its sound can be heard from afar. This scenery is the Clear Spring and Flying Waterfall.

Since the normalization of the relations between China and Japan, many Chinese cities have established friendly relationship with some Japanese cities. In the 10th year since Harbin and Niigata became sister cities, both sides built together this Japanese style friendship garden in the Sun Island Park which is located on the northern bank of the Songhua River. Covering an area of 3.7 hectares, the garden was built with a total investment of 4.2 million yuan.

Japan invested 3.3 million yen and took the responsibility of the fundamental design. China was responsible for the construction work. It took 14 months to complete the garden.
Opened in September 1989, the garden receives 150,000 domestic and foreign guests every year. The top leaders of the Party and the PRC such as Li Peng and Qiao Shi visited the garden on inspection. Friendship Garden has become an important window of Harbin. The park is built on the basis of the natural scenery and blends beautifully with its surroundings. The Sino-Japanese Friendship Memorial Hall is of traditional Japanese architectural style. Tourists can find distinctive Japanese flavor in the trees and large expanse of lawns. Facing the wonderful scenery, tourists would feel like being in Japan.

Zhaolin Park Harbin

Situated in the central area of t he city and covering an area of 6.5 hectares, Zhaolin Park faces the beautiful Songhua River. Built in 1906, it has a long history. Owing to the unique climatic conditions, two distinct categories of natural beauties can be found in Zhaolin Park. In summer, the green plants and colorful flowers make the park the countryside of the city. The tourists can not only do sightseeing by boat but also get a panorama on the 42-meter-high cable car.

Other recreational facilities will also give the tourists the most enjoyment. In winter, the park will become an icy world and a sea of lanterns. The world famous Festival of Ice Lanterns has been held here 26 times already.

Stalin Park Harbin

Built in 1953 and called Jiangpan Park originally, the Stalin Park is located on the southern bank of the Songhua River. Extending 1,750 meters from the Songhua River railway bridge to the east and Jiuzhan Park to the west, it is a belt-shaped open park built along the riverbank.

Facing the famous Sun Island on the other side of the river and covering an area of 105,000 square meters, it has become world famous for its Russian architectural style, colorful flower beds every where in the park and the sixteen groups of art sculptures.

Dream Paradise Harbin

With a total floor area of 32,000 square meters, this paradise is the largest one among the similar constructions in China. The room temperature and the water temperature in the water area always remain at 38? and 30?. Inside it are also several swimming pools, massage pools, pools of artificial wave and slide ways.

It is located in the intersection of Nan'gang District, Taiping District and Daowai District. In this modern amusement park are rapids, Flying Arabian Rug and Sanhuan Project, etc. Covered by green trees and frequented by various birds, it is one of the most important tourist attractions in Harbin.

Children's Park  Harbin

Built in 1925, it used to be called Railway Park. In 1953, it was renamed as Nan'gang Park after the people's government took it over. On June 1, 1956, Nan'gang Park was renamed as Children's Park with the formal opening to traffic of the first children's train in China. Covering 17 hectares, it is a comprehensive park serving the children. It was honored as a category-A park in the province in 1993. In 1996,

it was awarded the title of the Municipal Civilized Work Unit. In 1997, it was chosen as the base of moral education for the primary and middle school students and an education base in the community.

The bush, arbor, flowers and trees, herbs, liana deciduous trees and evergreen trees have formed a harmonious forest melody.

it was reputed to be one of the seven miracles in the ancient world.The Babylon Park in Harbin was designed with a 3-D plan. Of the three stories, the first story is a semi-basement with an area of 7,000 square meters. The underground parking lot has 4 entrances and exits and can park over 100 vehicles. The second floor is the main body of the park. The corridor at the gate, adopting the sculpt of the architecture in the Yuanmingyuan Garden, is of distinctive classical oriental building style.

Venice Park  Harbin

Covering an area of 9.83 hectares and with a total floor space of 181,000 square meters, the park has an entrance of a combination of 32 pillars and circling corridors with a strong sense of classical oriental style. The park is comprised of 7 parts, namely, the underground parking lot, 7-section waterfall, water lily pool, musical fountains, Venice bridge, business and accommodation building as well as comprehensive buildings.
Venice Park

The main body of the garden is a 40-meterlong bridge, which was built on the basis of a prototype in Venice. The "Venice Bridge" is 23 meters in span and 6 meters high in bridge opening. Altogether there are six openings. The tourists can step onto the bridge through the corridor. Against the railings, they can enjoy the scenery all over the garden.

The Zoo Harbin

Located in No.95, Hexing Road of Dongli District and covering an area of 37.25 hectares, it was first an experimental forest for Northeast Forest University and became a park in 1958 after reconstruction. After decades of development, it has become a large comprehensive park integrating animal raising, protection and breeding of wild animals as well as commerce and recreation.

Tourists can watch the performances of tamed animals such as Manchurian tigers, African lions, Asian elephants and American tigers. There are also the peacock room, room of water birds, room of birds of prey and bird room, where tourists can find the peacocks, white cranes, red-crowned cranes, straw-feathered cranes, vultures, cinereous vultures, aigrets and other birds. On the other side is the area of herbivorous animals where the sika deer, white-lipped deer, elk, red deer, camels, zebra, hippo, wild ox, wild donkey and Asian elephants are raised.
