Harbin in recent years has become one of the major attractions of winter tourism in China. During January and February, Harbin becomes a paradise for lovers of photography (and lovers of beautiful things). Photos of white monuments and giant buildings, entirely made by ice (huge blocks extracted from the frozen Songhua River) have been around the world and every year attracts millions of tourists in Harbin.

The tourist organization of winter travel in Harbin has greatly developed, much to give visitors unforgettable experiences and countless activities related to ice. Among the attractions of Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival there are also the Harbin Ice and Snow World, the Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo, the International Snow Sculpture Competition. Among the activities of the winter we also remember the Harbin Ice Lantern Fair at Zhaolin Park, winter-swimming in the Songhua River, Yabuli alpine skiing. The Competition of ice sculptures (20th Harbin International Snow Sculpture Competition) this year was attended by about 28 teams and over 100 ice sculptors.

HARBIN, January (Xinhua) -- The 20th Harbin International Snow Sculpture Contest kicks off in northeast China's Heilongjiang province on Saturday. The contest, which is to last four days, has attracted more than 110 artists from 12 countries, including France, Italy, the UK, Russia and the Republic of Korea. These contestants, in 28 teams, are to show their skills on snow blocks which are 3 meters long, 3 meters broad and 4 meters tall. Famous artists in the world have been invited to be judges so as to make the event more influential. Heilongjiang borders Russia and is known in China as the "world of ice and snow" in winter. The contest is an important activity of the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival.
