Tour prices to Hong Kong are expected to have a slight drop in the coming Labor Day holiday, compared with the previous year, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today.

Airfares to Hong Kong in the coming Labor Day holiday are expected to be 20 percent lower than a year before, and no large price increases are predicted at that time, so the costs to Hong Kong during the holiday might be the same as this month, said Cao Xi, spokesman with the Hong Kong and Macau department of the Shanghai China Youth Travel Service Tour Corporation.

The four-day luxurious package tour to Hong Kong, allowing tourists to live in four-star hotels, with a price of nearly 3,300 yuan (US$397.6), has the best price quality, Cao added.

As of the beginning of the year, the tour prices to Hong Kong continued to drop. However, the low prices of more than 1,000 yuan will last until April 10 when Hong Kong will welcome its peak period for exhibitions, according to several local major travel agencies.

Local travel agencies have received notices from Hong Kong that hotel prices will soar and most of the rooms have been booked up by next month.

Although the tour prices will increase, the number of tourists to Hong Kong will not sharply decline in April, said an industry analyst.

Dragonair announced to offer 600 yuan in discounts to self-organized tourists next month, with round-trip airfares plus two-night hotel prices reaching 2.660 yuan and 13 four or five-star hotels offered for option.

"More than 1,000 tourists can enjoy our preferential policy," said a spokesman with Dragonair.
