China Rourist Art Festival and Guangdong Dun Festival
During this period of festivals held from September to October every year in Guangzhou, both domestic and overseas folk culture groups are invited to give performances. Shopping and tasting local delicacies also add colour to this joyous time.
Guangzhou Flower Fair
The fair is held on the 28th-30th days of the 12th lunar month, the last day being the climax. Before the New Year's Day, flower frovers from Guangzhou suburbs trasport their fresh flowers and potted plants to the streets of Binjiang, Dongchuan and Jiaoyu, creating a beautiful flower fair.
Guangzhou Boat Festival
The Festival is held annually in autumn. Hundreds of restaurants, food stalls and fast food shops offer more than 1000 various dishes, attracting members of the food industry and food-lovers in flocks, The climax of the festival is the exciting and "appetising" cooking tournament.
Dragon Boat Festival
It is held around the 5th day of the 5th lunar month every year. Dragon Boat tournaments in Shunde and Dongguan are most remarkable. The celebratory tournaments on Dongjiang River near Liuhua Pagoda in Dongguan gathers thousands of spectators. on Zhujiang River in Guangzhou, the cheering of the audience and the sound of drums and gongs create the most jubilant atmosphere.
Litchi Festival
held between June and July, this is one of the grandest festivals in Shenzhen, Maoming, Zengcheng, Conghua and Dongguan. In the opening ceremony, visitors can try the litchi fruit while enjoying various performances including folk dances and songs. "Litchi Cup" competition for amateur singers is held. Other activities include fine arts, calligraphy, photo and book exhibitions, sports demonstrations, and movies.
Meizhou Folk Song Festival
It is held around Mid-Autumn Festival in Meizhou, the major area inhabited by the Hakkas. During the occasion there are folk singing and folk song composing contests. The festival attracts many many overseas Hakkas to visit their hometowns.
Shantou Sping Festival Party
Form the 11th day of the first lunar month till the Lantern Festival on the 15th day, both local and overseas Chaozhou and Shantou people gather for fun and culrural and economic activities. To extol the good times, places are decorated with colourful lanterns and sreamers. Meanwhile, exhibitions and trade fairs are held.
Liannan Pangu Festival
Beginning from the 16th day of the 10th lunar month, the celebration lasts for three to nine days. Drums and gongs are sounded, and idols of ancestors and King Pangu and his wife are carried by the villagers, who parade from village to village. Weanwhile rice wine and cakes are left outside the front door to serve people in need. Antiphonal singing headed by senior men begins after the parade.
Shaoguan Rafting Tour Festival
The activity is held annually betweed May and August. Tourists travel down a section of 60 Kilometres by dinghy in about four hours. The rafting is sometimes smooth, when participants can admire the picturesque scenery on both sides of the river, but gets extremely exciting when passing through the rapids. Travellers can also visit scenic sports like Jinji Ridge Scenic Area and spots of historical interest in the vicinity after the rafting.
Yangjiang Kete Festival
Falling on the Double Ninth Festival (the ninth day of the ninth lunar month), it is the fay when the people of Yangjiang gather on the hills in the city's suburbs to fly their self-made kites. These kites vary greatly in size and shape with different colours and patterns.
Guangzhou New Year Floral Parade
It is held on New Year's Day. In the grand opening ceremony, colourful performances are preserted before the parade kicks off. The parade consists of dozens of exquisitely-decorated floral floats, which, after passing through major streets of Guangzhou, head for varous suburban cities.
