Hong Kong is so compact and its transportation systems are so good, you'll have no trouble traveling, around the vibrant city ant exploring the tranquil countryside.

Metered taxis are plentiful and inexpensive, and double-decker buses and small mini- buses are routed extensively throughout the territory.

Since 1904, trams have trundled the length of what was once the waterfront on Hong Kong Island, offering a grandstand view of the colourful street-life along the route.

Another unforgettable tram- ride is the funicular 'Peak Tram' up to Victoria Peak, for a panoramic view of the harbour, the islands and the city. The famous 'Star' Ferries crisscross the harbour to Kowloon; and the outlying islands are served by the Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry Company, the world's largest ferry company.

The KCR (Kowloon-Canton Railway) runs right up to the Chinese border through the duck farms, fish-ponds and ancient walled villages of the rural New Territories.

The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) underground system inter-connects the eastern- most end of Hong Kong Island with Kowloon and the New Territories across the harbour. You can travel under the city and amours in air-conditioned comfort and quiet, stopping at shopping and dining centers along the route.

Most hotels, shopping and entertainment centers are within walking distance of an MTR station. Rental cars are available and there are many excellent tours around Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories.
