At an elevation of 500 meters, Hanzhong is located in the center of the Hanzhong
Basin. The annual temperature is 14.30C. Major tourist attractions include the ancient
plank road, the Terrace of Acknowledging the General, and the ancient Hutou Bridge.
The Memorial Temple to Zhuage Liang:
It is the only temple built with the instruction of
the emperor, in 263, 40 years earlier than the one
in Chengdu. Known as the No. One Memorial
Temple Under Heaven, it is a major relic under
provincial protection.
The Tomb of Zhuge Liang:
Located at the northwestern foot of Mt. Dingjun
5 kilometers south of Mainxian, it covers an area of
0.21 square kilometers, surrounded by hills, mountains, rivers, and ancient pines and cypresses.
Hence its name the Natural Park in southern Shaanxi.
Crested Ibis Nature Reserve: Located in Yangxian County in southern Shaanxi, it is home to crested ibis, a bird in peril of extinction. The birds were found in May 1981 in Yangxian County, soon after which a nature reserve was built. Thanks to a decade of pains- taking efforts, the birds have increased from the original seven to 136 today, 67 of which are wild. The nature reserve has drawn many specialists and scientists from around the world.
Foping Giant Panda nature Reserve: Located in northeastern Folding County of southern Shaanxi. 200 kilometers from Xi'an, it covers an area of 35.000 hectares, at an elevation of 3,000 meters. The alpine forest, many rivers and valleys, abundant bamboos, and pleasant climate make it an ideal home for giant pandas.
Rhinopithecus Roxellanae nature Reserve: Located on the northern slope of the Qindian Summit in southern Zhouzhi Country, 140 kilometers from Xi an. it cover 56,393 hectares in area. A rare species known as golden monkey, rhinopithecus roxellanae is believed to be China's national treasure. There are 1,270 monkeys in 11 groups in the reserve.
