Xian Hotels


Located in the middle of the Guanzhong Plain, 25 kilometers east of Xi'an, Xianyang once served as the first capital in feudal China. Covering an area of 10,213 square kilometers, it has 1,585 relics and historic sites, such as the 1,000-Buddha Pagoda, the Shunting, Changling, and Hanling Tombs, as well as the tombs of Princess Changle and Concubine Yang Yuhuan.

The Maoling Tomb:

Lying in Xingping County, 46 kilometers from Van, it is the tomb of Emperor WA of the Han Dynasty, the largest of its kind among royal mausoleums in the Western Han Dynasty. There used to be many structures in the cemetery. In 1981, 200 articles were unearthed from the east of the tomb. The Maoling Museum, one kilometer east of the tomb, houses many excellent, large stone carvings of ancient China.

The Qianling Tomb:

A tomb of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty, it rests on Mt. Liangshan, 6 kilometers north of Qianxian County and 45 kilo- meters from Xianyang. It is surrounded by two walls and guarded by watchtowers and huge stone sculptures, including 61 stone statues of the chiefs of ethnic groups and foreign envoys, and four pairs of stone lions, each at the gate of the cemetery. There are also 17 tombs around the tomb.

 

The tomb of concubine Yang Yuhuan:

A relic under state protection, it is the tomb of Yang Yuhuan, a favorite concubine of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. In 775 when the An Lushan-shi Siming Rebellion took place, the emperor escaped with Yang, who was forced to hang Herself and was buried here, on their way to Sichuan.
