Guangzhou
Guangzhou, located on the Pearl River, about 118 km from Hong Kong, is the capital of Guangdong province. Having about 13 million inhabitants, Guangzhou is the third largest city in China. In its vicinity there are great and important cities such as Foshan (19 km), Dongguan (50 km), Jiangmen (62 km), Zhongshan (70 km), Zhuhai (100 km ), Shenzhen (105 km). All these cities are now connected to Guangzhou by Metro or high-speed train.
Guangzhou is a major tourist city, every year attracts millions of visitors, both businessmen and traditional tourists. Hotels in Guangzhou are very numerous, have a great international experience, guarantee excellent facilities and services. During the Canton Fair or during other important events, it may be that all hotels in Canton are full. In this case, many tourists fall back on hotels located in nearby cities, such as Foshan (connected to the Guangzhou Metro) or as Dongguan (every few minutes start from here high-speed trains to Guangzhou).
Guangzhou is also named Canton, Kanton, Kwangchow. The ancient name is Panyu. Its origin is very old, in 206 BF this city was already the capital of the Nanyue Kingdom (which also included Vietnam). Subsequently Canton was also the capital of the Nan Han Dynasty and Nan Ming Dynasty. In 111 BF the Nanyue Kingdom was annexed by China from the Han Dynasty. Nowadays the visitors can relive a piece of history at 'Nanyue King Tomb Museum', an interesting museum (which also includes the tomb of the first emperor) dedicated to the Nanyue Kingdom.
Guangzhou from ancient times is an important port for the traffic of goods, and a center of international trade. In 1685 Guangzhou was the only Chinese city that could engage in trade with foreign countries. Even today, Guangzhou is the Chinese city where the import-export is more developed. A large contribution to this situation comes from Canton Fair, one of the largest fairs in the world, where it is possible know a large part of Chinese production. The Canton Fair attracts a large number of foreign visitors and is repeated twice a year, in April and in October.
