Xian General Information
Xian in 2008 had a population of 8,252,000, actually surely exceed 9 millions. The urban area covers an area of 826 kmsq, while the province occupies 9.980 kmsq. The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang (with Terracotta Army) was accidentally discovered in 1974 by a farmer who was digging a well. Qin Shi Huang was the emperor who first united China (in 221 BC). He is also remembered for having initiated the work of the Great Wall. The archaeological site is located 40 km East of Xian. Until now have been brought to light about 8000 warriors. Each warrior has human dimensions and reproduces the physical features of a true warrior of the Qin Shi Huang army. In addition to the warriors there are also horses, chariots and bronze weapons. Most of the statues are still in the excavation, the location where they were discovered. Thousands of statues waiting to be discovered but it is waiting to develop a technique to preserve the original colors. The statues already discovered, in fact, have lost their color (very bright), disappeared after a few hours of contact with air.

The well-preserved City Wall and other Attractions
Xian is surrounded by well-preserved City Wall, built in 1370 and remained intact until the present day. The Huaqing Palace has history of 3,000 years. This area is ranked among the Hundred Famous Gardens in China, and is placed under the special protection of the national government (National Cultural Relic Protection).
