Actor Alain Delon named Expo ambassador for France

French actor Alain Delon now has a new role -- 2010 World Expo ambassador for France.

The film star was selected by Jose Freches, president of COFRES, the company in charge of France's participation, according to www.pavillon-france.com.cn/blog-1.html.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has voiced appreciation for the choice, the Website said as the French government hoped Delon would help attract Chinese people's interest in the pavilion and the country.

The French government viewed taking an active role in Shanghai Expo as an important strategy in developing stronger diplomatic ties with China, according to the Website.

Delon will talk about his impressions of China and its people on TV programs that will be aired during the six-month event.

Delon has starred in such films as "Zorro" and "The Black Tulip".
