Chinese Embassy in Lithuania gears up for Expo

Zhou Hanmin, deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, yesterday expressed appreciation to the Chinese Embassy in Lithuania for its efforts in promoting Expo 2010 in the country.

Zhou briefed Yang Xiuping, Chinese Ambassador to lithuania, on Shanghai Expo preparations as well aa organizers' efforts in plannlng the third participants meeting scheduled for November 13 and 14 in Shanghai.

The ambassador said the Lithuanian government attached great importance to its participation at the 2010 event. The embassy would propose activities next yest, which marked the 1,000-year anniversary of the Founding of Lithuania, to promote Expo 2010, according to yang.

The European Union has also designated Vilnius, Litthuania, as the European Capital of Culture next year.
