Japan's trade body eager for closer ties with Expo

Shanghai Expo organizers and officials of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) yesterday reached a consensus to cooperate more closely and communicate more frequently during a meeting between the two sides at the Buresu of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

Hong Hao, director of the bureau said he expected more communication with JEETRO to help finalize detailed plans of Japan's show, therefore, the Japan Pavilion would start construction early.

He promised organizers' all-out efforts in coordinating the pavilion's construction, exhibition and operation. The director also hoped the government-related organization, which works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world, would help promote the Expo in the country.

Yasuo Hayashi, Chairman and CEO of JETRO, said the organization had rich experience in Expos as it had participated in 21 World Expos since the Brussels Expo in 1958, expecting a splendid pavilion under the efforts of the two sides.

Hayashi is in charge of the preparatory committee of the country's Expo presentation. JETRO has set up a information center in its' branch in Shanghai to issue participation information via forums.

Japan signed its Expo participation contract on October 28.
