Japanese mayors briefed on Expo

Japanese mayors briefed on Expo

scene of the meeting

Japanese mayors were briefed on Expo preparations yesterday and discussed their participation in the World Expo 2010 titled "Better City, Better Life".

The Japan Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo has been called a "breathing organism" structure, describing a "living" modern city that is in tune with its people and with nature. Japan will highlight the role of advanced environmental technology in achieving a more comfortable and sustainable life.

The delegation of Japanese mayors visited World Expo headquarters and met Huang Jianzhi, deputy director general of Expo Coordination Bureau.

Huang gave a progress report on the World Expo and said the Shanghai Expo organizers would draw from Japan's experience in hosting World Expo over 35 years.

Japan has hosted five World Expos, including the 2005 Expo in Aichi and its first Expo in 1970 in Osaka that drew a record 64 million visitors. China expects around 70 million visitors over the six-month-long Expo opening on May 1, 2010.

Japan signed its Expo participation contract on October 28.
