During Emperor Qianlong's reign of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the lake was well known for 24 scenic spots. On the broad lake surface, the Five-Pavilion Bridge and White Pagoda are eye-catching symbols.
The Shugang Ridge scenic spot traverses the northern suburbs of Yangzhou. From the Spring and Autumn Period to the Southern Tang Dynasty (907-960), Shugang Ridge was the site of the Yangzhou City. 3 peaks of Shugang Ridge was the No.1 tourist attraction of Yangzhou even in ancient times.
Today, it looks more fascinating than in the old days. The peaks, covered by millions of green pines and verdant cypresses, have the centerpiece of the Daming Temple, dotted with halls, terraces and towers as well as waterside pavilions.
At the southeastern foot of Shugang Ridge lies a grand museum for the Tomb of Emperor Guangling. In the northern part of the Shugang Ridge-Slender West Lake area, one can see the Tomb of Sui Dynasty Emperor yang and the Ruanyuan Tomb, along with the Tomb of the Han Dynasty of Ganquanshan Mountain in the western part.
Taking the Qianlong Boat to travel on the lake from a dock before the Tianning Temple, the landscape of forests and pavilions as well as rippling water with glistening light unfolds before visitors. Passing by towers and pavilions, one reaches Daming Temple of Shugang Ridge.

Geyuan Garden Yangzhou

Geyuan Garden, located on the northern side of Dongguan Street of Yangzhou City, was rebuilt by General Manager Huang Zhiyun, a local salt industry official on a ruin in the 23rd year of Qing Dynasty Emperor Jiaqing's reign (1818). Bamboo leaves in the garden look like the Chinese character-"?"(Ge), hence the name Geyuan Garden.
Well-known for its exquisite rockeries in groups representing four seasons, the garden is the only one that has these all year round. |
Currently, it has been rated as a key unit of cultural relics under State protection, one of the four famous gardens throughout the country.
Heyuan Garden Yangzhou
Heyuan Garden, originally named Jixiao Mountain Village, is located at the central part of Xuningmen Street on the north bank of the ancient Canal. It was built by He Zhidao, a high-ranking official and dates back to the 9th year of Qing Dynasty Emperor Guangxu's reign (1883).

The garden is divided into three parts: the northern part is the rear garden; the central part is a courtyard in a mixed Chinese-Western style, a model of the combination of Chinese architectural art with Western style in this field; the southeastern part of it is an area of guarinite-built houses.
Rated as a representative work of the Yangzhou gardening in the Qing Dynasty, it is now listed as a unit of the cultural relics under State protection.
Wenjin Garden Yangzhou

The Wenjin Garden, a street-center garden with a unique character built in 1993, is located in the northern part of Wenhe Road in downtown Yangzhou City.
Inheriting obvious characteristics from the Yangzhou-style garden, the Wenjin Garden was built with rockeries, water ponds, lawns, waterfall, pavilions, fountains. In the northernmost part, rockeries built with stones from Mt. |
Huangshan can be found, and to the southernmost, rockeries piled up by lake stones are set off. And the Wushuang Pavilion in simple style and a fountain in a crane shape decorate the other part of the garden.
In the evening, the Wenjin Garden seems to be more charming because it is with colored lanterns, which make trees and flowers more gorgeous.
Potted-Landscape Garden
The Potted-Landscape Garden is one of the 24 sights in Yangzhou of the Qing Dynasty. The water in the Slender West Lake is divided into two tributaries: one flows to the south and the other east. Water zigzags along the banks.

Within the garden are the potted-landscapes of Yangzhou. They are in different styles: the potted-landscapes of ancient tree stools; those of elegant water stones and of water-dry plants. These potted landscapes combine into a unique and attractive scene.
Lotus-Pond Park

Lotus-Pond Park, located in the southern part of Yangzhou suburbs, was originally given the name of Nanchi and Yanchi Park. Later, it was called the Lotus-Pond Park because lotus is widely planted there. Within the park, the Nine-Peak Hill of the Taihu Lake can be found. When Emperor Qianlong made a visit to the park, he wrote an inscription on a board for it. |
Roaming around the park, fascinating scenes can be discovered everywhere. For example, ancient courtyards and pavilions are mirrored by the water of the lake; the spring water slowly passes by exquisite rockeries, and bold and straight trees are accompanied by flowers in blossom.
Yechun Garden
Yechun Garden, blessed with the first scenery of the Emperor Qianlong's Lake Cruise, is one of the eight famous gardens in the Qing Dynasty.
Due to the investment by China National Tourism Administration in the past few years, a complex of buildings in the Ming and Qing styles has been restored. Here are thatched cottages and waterside pavilions as well as corridors rare in Eastern China. There is an open garden for food and beverage service sightseeing and recreation, and local people regard it as a good place to eat breakfast. |

The Yechun teacake with distinctive flavors and traditional Yangzhou delicacies have attracted numerous tourists to Yechun Garden. Moreover, the grassland, square, paths and riverside within the garden are good places for morning exercises and walking.

Zhuxi Park

Zhuxi Park is located on the bank of the Grand Canal, by the southernmost of Zhuxi Temple. Built in 1989, it was named after the ancient relics of "Zhuxi Pavilion" in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). |
The Zhuxi Temple used to be called Chanzhi Temple, which was an imperial palace for Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty for short stays in Yangzhou. The backyard is a temple well known in the Tang Dynasty. The surroundings landscape is charming. Most scenic spots and historical sites in Yangzhou gather here.
Today, some scenic spots have been rebuilt in the park according to a meticulous plan, including "Zhuxi Pavilion", "Zhuxi Refined Palace" and "Bright-Moon Bridge", which represent the best scenery of Zhuxi Park.
The Zhuxi Park is acclaimed for its colorful potted-flowers and blossoming tulips. The annual Tulip Fair adds charm to the park.
Herding Wild Ducks in the East Lake
The East Lake is located in Mapeng Town, Gaoyou City, 12 km from the city proper. Herding wild ducks, a stunt well known throughout the world, has added to the East Lake's fame.
