AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINAAND THE GOVERNMENT OF BARBADOS CONCERNING THE MAINTENANCE BY BARBADOS OFTHE CONSULAR POST HEADED BY AN HONORARY CONSUL IN THE HONG KONG SPECIALADMINISTRATIVE REGION OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of
Barbados, out of the common desire to strengthen friendly relations and
enhance consular ties between the two countries, have reached the
following agreement concerning the maintenance by Barbados of the consular
post headed by an honorary consul in the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region of the People's Republic of China:
1. The Government of the People's Republic of China agrees to the
maintenance by the Government of Barbados of the consular post headed by
an honorary consul in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the
People's Republic of China, with the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region as its consular district.
2. The honorary consular officers shall exercise the consular
functions in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations
and the relevant laws and regulations of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, and enjoy the
corresponding privileges and immunities.
3. The Government of the People's Republic of China, in accordance
with its relevant laws and regulations, shall accord the necessary
assistance and facilities to the consular post headed by an honorary
consul of Barbados and its honorary consular officers in the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China in the
exercise of its consular functions.
4. The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government
of Barbados shall conduct consular matters between them in a friendly
manner in the spirit of consultation and co-operation, and in accordance
with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and International
Practice.
5. The honorary consular officers shall be the nationals of either the
People's Republic of China or Barbados or a third country, but shall not
be stateless, and must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
6. The Government of Barbados shall not appoint honorary consular
officers, once it has appointed career consular officers to the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
7. The present Agreement shall enter into force on 1 July 1997.

Chinese and English languages, both texts being equally authentic.
