AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD ANDTOBAGO AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA CONCERNING THEMAINTENANCE BY THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO OF THE CONSULAR POSTHEADED BY AN HONORARY CONSS REPUBLIC OF CHINA AND THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDADAND TOBAGO

The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the
Government of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as
"the two Parties"), desiring to strengthen the friendly relations and
enhance the consular ties between the two countries, have concluded the
following agreement concerning the maintenance by the Republic of Trinidad
and Tobago of the consular post headed by an honorary consul in the Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China:
1. The Government of the People's Republic of China agrees to the
maintenance by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago of
the consular post headed by an honorary consul in the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, with the Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region as its consular district.
2. The honorary consul shall exercise the consular functions in
accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and the
relevant laws and regulations of the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region of the People's Republic of China, and shall enjoy the
corresponding privileges and immunities contained therein.
3. The Government of the People's Republic of China, in accordance
with its relevant laws and regulations, shall accord the necessary
assistance and facilities to the honorary consul of the Republic of
Trinidad and Tobago in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the
People's Republic of China in the exercise of his consular functions.
4. The two Parties shall regulate all consular matters between them in
a spirit of consultation and cooperation as well as in accordance with the
provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and
international practice.
5. The honorary consul shall be a national of either Party or a third
country, but not stateless, and must be a permanent resident of the Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
6. The present Agreement shall enter into force on 1 July 1997.
