AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINAAND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SEYCHELLES CONCERNING THE MAINTE-NANCE BY THE REPUBLIC OF SEYCHELLES OF THE CONSULAR POST HEADED BY ANHONORARY CONSUL IN THE HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION OF THEPEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of
the Republic of Seychelles (hereinafter referred to as "the two Parties"),
out of the common desire to develop friendly relations and enhance
consular ties between the two countries, have reached the following
agreement concerning the maintenance by the Republic of Seychelles of the
consular post headed by an honorary consul in the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China:
1. The Government of the People's Republic of China agrees to the
maintenance by the Government of the Republic of Seychelles of the
consular post headed by an honorary consul in the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, with the Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region as its consular district.
2. There shall be only one honorary consular officer for the honorary
consular post of the Republic of Seychelles in the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Any change to its
size shall be decided upon through separate consultations between the two
Parties.
3. The honorary consular officer shall exercise the consular functions
in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and the
relevant laws and regulations of the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region of the People's Republic of China, and enjoy the corresponding
privileges and immunities.
4. The Government of the People's Republic of China, in accordance
with its relevant laws and regulations, shall accord the necessary
assistance and facilities to the honorary consular officer of the Republic
of Seychelles in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the
People's Republic of China in the exercise of the consular functions.
5. The two Parties shall handle consular matters between them in a
friendly manner in the spirit of consultation and cooperation, and in
accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and
international practice.
6. The honorary consular officer shall be a national of either Party
or a third country; but not a stateless person, and must be a permanent
resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's
Republic of China.
7. The Republic of Seychelles shall not appoint any honorary consular
officer, once it has appointed career consular officer to the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
8. The present Agreement shall enter into force on 1 July 1997.

English languages, both texts being equally authentic.
