AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINAAND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS CONCERNING THEMAINTENANCE OF THE CONSULAR POST HEADED BY AN HONORARY CONSUL OF THECOMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMA

AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINAAND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS CONCERNING THEMAINTENANCE OF THE CONSULAR POST HEADED BY AN HONORARY CONSUL OF THECOMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMA S IN THE HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGIONOF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA Whole document The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas (hereinafter referred to as the two Parties), out of the common desire to develop friendly relations and enhance consular ties between the two countries, have reached the following agreement concerning the maintenance of the consular post headed by an honorary consul of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China: 1. The Government of the People's Republic of China agrees to the maintenance by the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas of its consular post headed by an honorary consul in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, the consular district of which shall be the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

2. The Government of the People's Republic of China shall, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 24 April 1963 and relevant laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, accord necessary assistance and facilities to the consular post headed by an honorary consul of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and its consular officers in the exercise of consular functions.

3. The two Parties shall handle consular matters between them in a friendly manner in the spirit of consultation and cooperation, and in accordance with international law and practice.

4. The present Agreement shall enter into force on 1 July 1997.

Done in New York on 23 June, 1997 in duplicate in the Chinese and English languages, both texts being equally authentic.
