AGREEMENT ON THE MUTUAL EXEMPTION OF VISAS FOR OFFICIAL TOUR BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA AND THE GOVERN- MENT OF THE COOPERATIVE REPUBLIC OF GUYANA

AGREEMENT ON THE MUTUAL EXEMPTION OF VISAS FOR OFFICIAL TOUR BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA AND THE GOVERN- MENT OF THE COOPERATIVE REPUBLIC OF GUYANA Whole document The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, with a view to further promoting friendly relations between the two countries and facilitating exchange of visits by citizens from either country, have, through friendly consultations on the basis of equality and reciprocity, reached the following agreement on mutual exemption of visa requirements.

ARTICLE I Citizens of the People's Republic of China who are holders of valid diplomatic and service passports, or passports for public affairs of the People's Republic of China, or who share the same passports with the holders as accompanying persons, and citizens of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana who are holders of valid diplomatic or official passports of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, or who share the same passports with the holders as accompanying persons, shall be exempted from visa requirements for entry into, exit from or transit through each other's territories.

The above-mentioned accompanying persons are limited to the spouse and minor children of the passport holder, and save the pre-school children, the accompanying person's photos should be attached to the passport.

ARTICLE II Citizens of either contracting party referred to in Article I of this Agreement, shall enter into, exit from or transit through ports open to international travelers of the other contracting party and go through necessary formalities in accordance with the relevant regulations of the latter's competent authorities.

ARTICLE III Citizens of either contracting party shall abide by the laws and regulations in force of the other party during their stay in the latter's territory. Citizens of either contracting party shall go through registration procedures in accordance with the relevant regulations of the competent authorities for stay in the territory of the other contracting party if such a stay exceeds thirty days.

ARTICLE IV Officials of or above vice ministerial level of the central government and officers at the rank of general or above of the armed forces of either contracting party shall obtain consent of the other contracting party or inform the competent authorities of the country concerned through diplomatic channels before their departure for the latter's territory in their official capacities.

ARTICLE V This Agreement does not restrict the right of either contracting party to prohibit persons non grant or unacceptable citizens of the other contracting party from entering its territory or to shorten or terminate their stay in its territory without citing reasons therefor.

ARTICLE VI Either contracting party may temporarily suspend this Agreement partially or wholly on the grounds of public order, state security and public health. However, it shall notify the other contracting party in advance of its intention to suspend the Agreement and to subsequently cancel the suspension through diplomatic channels.

Additional clauses or amendments to the Agreement may be made by means of exchange of notes by the contracting parties after consultation.

ARTICLE VII The contracting parties shall exchange, through diplomatic channels, samples of their passports referred to in Article I within thirty days after this Agreement enters into force. During the period of validity of this Agreement, either contracting party shall inform the other contracting party of any change of the form of the above-mentioned passports through diplomatic channels thirty days before its introduction and furnish the latter with samples of new passports.

ARTICLE VIII This Agreement shall enter into force on the thirtieth day from the date of its signature.

The present Agreement shall remain valid for an indefinite period of time. If either contracting party wishes to terminate this Agreement, it shall notify the other contracting party of its intention in writing through diplomatic channels, and this Agreement shall cease to be effective on the ninetieth day after the date of notification.

Done in Georgetown on July 20, 1998 in duplicate in Chinese and English, both texts of this Agreement are equally authentic.
