THE COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT ON AGRICULTURAL/LIVESTOCK SCIENCE ANDTECHNOLOGY BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA ANDTHE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHILE

The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of
the Republic of Chile (hereinafter referred to as the Two Parties).
CONSIDERING the existing friendly relations between the two countries;
NOTING the Science and Technology Cooperation Framework Agreement
signed between the Two Parties on October 14, 1980; Considering the common
interest in agricultural/livestock science and technology cooperation;
and
With a view to strengthening the bilateral relations and friendly
cooperation,
HAVE REACHED THE FOLLOWING AGREEMENT:
Article I
This Agreement aims to promote the agricultural/livestock science and
technology cooperation, and to improve the agricultural/livestock
productivity in the two countries.
The Two Parties, thereby, commit to enhancing and conducting
agricultural/livestock science and technology cooperative activities in
the principle of equality and mutual benefit.
Article II
The Two Parties, abiding by the laws and following policies of the two
countries, support and facilitate agricultural sector and research
institutions in the two countries to have the contacts and research
cooperation in various forms in agricultural/livestock fields, and accord
convenience to this end.
Article III
The Two Parties hold that the agricultural/livestock science and
technology cooperation shall cover following areas:
1.- science and technology information and documentation;
2.- research on and utilization of animal and plant genetic resources;
3.- research on technologies in agricultural/livestock production;
4.- technologies for agricultural/livestock product processing and
storage; and
5.- other areas of the common interest.
Article IV
The Two Parties shall, on the basis of consensus, carry out the
cooperation in the areas specified in Article III through the following
specific means:
1.- establishing ties between agricultural research institutions and
agricultural universities/colleges;
2.- fielding technical study tours and sending long term experts for
cooperative research to the other's country when conditions warrant;
3.- exchanging agricultural scientific and technical documentation and
information;
4.- exchanging biological materials for scientific research;
5.- jointly formulating, through consultation, overall cooperative
programs; and
6.- jointly organizing symposia, seminars and other relevant meetings
and conferences.
Article V
It is mutually agreed that a coordination committee on
agricultural/livestock science and technology cooperation shall be
established by the Two Parties to meet biannually to discuss and decide on
cooperative, programs and projects between the Two Parties. It is also
agreed by the Two Parties that each shall designate Ministry of
Agriculture on its own to coordinate, implement and manage the cooperative
activities between the Two Parties.
Article VI
This Agreement shall come into force on the date of signature with a
valid period of six years and shall be extended automatically unless one
of The Two Parties notifies in writing one year in advance the other party
of terminating this Agreement. The termination of this Agreement shall not
affect the cooperative projects being implemented within valid period of
this Agreement.
Article VII
DONE in duplicate in the city of Santiago, on this sixth day of
November in the year one thousand nine hundred and ninety-six, in the
Chinese, Spanish and English languages, all texts being equally authentic.
In case of inconsistencies between the Spanish and Chinese texts, the
English text shall prevail.
