The Embassy of the Republic of the Marshall Islands presents its
compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of
China and, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of the Marshall
Islands, has the honor to confirm that the two sides, with a view to
developing friendly relations between the two countries, promoting trade
and economic development and facilitating personnel exchanges between the
Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region of the People's Republic of China, have through friendly
consultations, reached agreement on mutual exemption of visa requirements
between the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China as follows:
1. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, who hold the
valid passports of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (including the
accompanying persons who share the same passports), shall be exempted from
the visa requirements within 14 days for entry into, exit from or transit
through the territory of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of
the People's Republic of China as visitors; Citizens of the People's
Republic of China who hold valid passports of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, shall be exempted
from visa requirements within 14 days for entry into, exit from or transit
through the territory of the Republic of the Marshall Islands as visitors.
2. The citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the
citizens of the People's Republic of China referred to in Article I shall
abide by the relevant laws and regulations of the other Contracting Party
during their stay in its territory.
The citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the citizens
of the People's Republic of China referred to in Article I shall go
through the relevant procedures in accordance with the regulations of the
competent authorities of the other Party for stay in its territory if such
a stay would exceed the valid period of visa exemption.
3. The two Parties shall complete the exchange of samples of their
passports referred to in Article I before this Agreement comes into effect
through diplomatic channels.
Either Party, in case of any change of the forms of the said
passports, shall inform the other Party, through diplomatic channels, 30
days in advance and furnish it with samples of new passports.
If the above points receive the confirmation of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in a note in reply made
on behalf of the Government of the People's republic of China, this note
and the return note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall form an
agreement between the two Governments and shall enter into force on 1 July
1997.
The Embassy of the Republic of the Marshall Islands avails itself of
this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
People's Republic of China the assurances of its highest consideration.
