Regent International Hotels, one of the most respected brands in the luxury segment of the lodging industry, today announced that it has signed an agreement to open a new luxury hotel in Beijing.
The Fu Wah International Group will build The Regent Beijing, scheduled to open in September 2006. The hotel will be managed by Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific, Carlson's regional headquarters for the Asia-Pacific region.
A signing ceremony recently took place in the Auditorium Hall of the China Red Sandalwood Museum at the Fu Wah Group residence. Madam Chan Lai Wa, chairman and Mr. Chiu Yung, managing director of the Fu Wah Group; Marilyn Carlson Nelson, chairman and chief executive officer of Carlson Companies; and Paul Kirwin, president and managing director of Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific (CHAP) attended the ceremony.
The 499-room Regent
Beijing will be located in the heart of Beijing's commercial centre to serve business and leisure travelers, and local residents. The development will also include a 216-room Park Plaza hotel, the Park Plaza Wangfujing.
"We are delighted to be working with the Fu Wah group to bring Regent to
Beijing and this agreement further demonstrates our commitment to the Chinese market," said Mrs. Carlson Nelson. "We see the partnership with the Fu Wah Group as the start of a long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationship between our two companies."
"The development of The Regent hotel in
Beijing represents an important addition to the expanding international hotel market in the city," said Madame Chan Lai Wa, chairman, Fu Wah International Group. "We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Carlson Hotels in this exciting program and value the company's reputation as a global hospitality leader."
Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific also recently signed an agreement to manage a new Regent hotel in
Ningbo as it actively promotes development of Carlson brands in China.
"The two new hotel openings in China represent part of our plan to open as many as seven Regent hotels in China over the next 10 years," said Paul Kirwin. "The Fu Wah International Group is committed to the development of significant investment projects and the agreement signed today represents an important step for Regent in its theater of origin," continued Kirwin.
Regent International Hotels, the luxury flagship brand among Carlson's hotel portfolio, was born in Asia more than 30 years ago.
To reflect the luxury and uncompromising service offered by Regent International Hotels around the world, The Regent
Beijing will feature 442 guest rooms, 57 suites, four restaurants, two ballrooms and a health club. For the business audience, the hotel will also contain a boardroom and eight meeting rooms.
