Chinese visitors pump up Macau arrivals
|
30-Nov-2004 - |
MACAU has welcomed some 11.7 million arrivals to date in 2004, almost 45 per cent higher over last year, boosted by Chinese tourists, which continue to lead the growth in arrivals. Macau Government Tourist Office director, Mr Joan Manuel Costa Antunes, said the new casinos and resorts, which opened in 2004, and events such as the Macau Grand Prix were the main attractions. Growth, he said, was also facilitated by easing entry and the issuing of individual visas in July. He is confident arrivals in Macau will see significant growth in 2005 as it is staging the 54th PATA Annual Conference and the 4th East Asian games. There are 9,800 hotel rooms in Macau and 1,200 more will be added in 2005 and 6,000 more after that are in the pipeline. |
