An exhibition of the wonders of the world is one of the highlights of the on-going world heritage conference in Suzhou. More than 700 world heritage, all here under one roof. Re-creations of the most splendid places on earth. Let's start in China, in Xi'an.Even in death, the emperor in Qin dynasty had his terra-cotta warriors and horses.
These delicate models of Suzhou gardens tell the stories of an ancient water town. 100 meters show every detail of 29 of the country's cultural and historical treasures.
The pyramids of Egypt, so mysterious, so majestic.
The rare jade sculpture of the "bamyan" Buddha in Afghanistan reminds us of how the original fell victim to war, while tranquility and romance are found in Europe's countryside and beautiful churches.
This enormous undertaking took a year to prepare. And it took the cooperation of many people. Zhou Zheng, organizer of the World Heritage Exhibition, said, "When we were getting the exhibits ready, we didn't have pictures of some of the sites. When we spoke with the Director of the UNESCO world Heritage Center, Mr. Bandarin, he told us he had taken some photos when he visited those places. And he gave all of them to us. It was a great help."
Middle school students here in Suzhou made all these models and miniatures. And a Chinese photographer gave all his pictures taken in 77 countries in the past 8 years.
Zhou Jiansheng, a Chinese Photographer, said, "I'm so honored to have my photos shown here. All these heritages are the treasures of humankind, around the world. We share the same feeling about them. "
There are the paintings of primary school students in Suzhou. They've painted the heritages as they see them. It's the next generation telling the world in their own way to cherish these treasures of all humankind.
