Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme learns about the master plan of Shanghai Expo.
Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme said his country would put its best foot forward for the Shanghai World Expo 2010.
He was leading his country's delegation to the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination today.
Zhong Yanqun, fulltime deputy director of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai Executive Committee, received the delegation. He hoped work on the 5,000-square-meter Belgium Pavilion would start as soon as possible.
Belgium has a long association with World Expos and the 1958 Brussels World Fair was particularly impressive for its "Atomium", Zhong said.
The "Atomium" was a unique structure created for the event with its nine steel spheres. It soon became a symbol of World Expos as well as of modern architecture and Brussels.
Zhong said organizers had high expectations from the Belgium Pavilion which would revolve around the country's chocolate, beer and diamond industries.
Yves Leterme said that an exhibition proposal bidding process would begin by next month and many local enterprises have expressed their interest in the Belgium pavilion. Visitors will be able to savor Belgian food and learn various aspects of the European country at the pavilion, according to Yves Leterme.
