Hong Kong today signed a participation contract with Expo organizers to showcase the city’s intelligent lifestyles featuring its multifunctional smart card as an Urban Best Practice Area for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
The special administrative region’s "Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life" case will let visitors experience the life style that Hong Kong residents enjoy with the use of smart cards for public transport, car parking, shopping and entertainment, So Kam-leung, deputy director of the Hong Kong Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, said at the signing ceremony in Shanghai.
The region will also demonstrate its progress in promoting the smart card to residents.
Hong Kong is a city of vitality and the city's exhibition at the 2010 event is expected to become one of the highlights, said Zhou Hanmin, deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.
The Hong Kong Pavilion will explore the theme "Hong Kong - the Infinite City" with a focus on the convenient urban transport network, advanced scientific facilities, financial and trade systems, the multinational culture and sustainable high-quality urban life, Ella Tam, deputy director of the information services of the SAR government, said.
