General Information:
The Ancient City of Pingyao, one of China's ancient original cities, is one large ancient architectural complex composed of the complete city wall? streets and lanes? shops ?temples and civil dwelling houses. With a total area of 2.25KM2 and a present population of 42,000 urban citizens, the ancient city of Pingyao basically remains the historical features of the Ming and Sing Dynasties(A.D.1368--A.D.1911).

Initially built during King Xuan of the Western Zhou Dynasty(827B.C.--782B.C.),the ancient city of Pingyao has a history of over 2,700 years up to now. Since the implementation of the system of prefectures and counties in China in 221B.C.,Pingyao, as one of the primary cities in China, has been the seat of county government. The ancient city wall of Pingyao enlarged in the 3rd year of Emperor Hong Wu of the Ming Dynasty remains original. The six existing large temple complexes, the county government office buildings, the market tower and other various ancient architecture are all kept intact in the city. More than 100 streets and lanes in the city are still in original conditions. The commercial shops on both sides of the streets were primarily built from the 17th century to the 19th century. Over 400 unique and distinguished local dwelling houses are of great value among the 3,797 traditional civil houses in this city.

The traditional architectural structures of the whole ancient buildings of Pingyao city has the characteristics of four-square? dignity? symmetry and other traditional cultural features of the Han Nationality,which marks Chinese splendid cultural history of the Han Nationality. Pingyao county is abundant in historical relics with various cultural contents. Among the densely-scattered historical sites are 4 major state historical relics protections,5 major provincial historical relics protections and 90 major historical relics protections of Pingyao county. The rich ancient architectural buildings and historical relics treasure articles have been well preserved since the 10th century.

Since the 16th century, Pingyao ancient city had become one of the important commercial cities in North China and once dominated modern China's finance in its heyday of the middle and later 19th century, which provided sufficient funds for building qualified constructions.

Protected in good conditions, the ancient city of Pingyao is one of the well preserved in Han nationality area of China. Since the promulgation of the famous state historical and cultural city by State Council in 1986,the local government has been taking strict protection measures. Over the past 16 years, the state authorities concerned and the local governments have done a lot for the perfect protection and intact preservation of the historical and cultural surroundings of the ancient city, and furthermore, have confidence and ability to well preserve this ancient city an the basis of the criteria of world cultural heritage.

Arrive:
Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport is situated on the Zhujiajian Island. It is situated 1.2 km west of Shenjiamen and 2.5 km south of Putuoshan. From Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport to Putuoshan, you can first take a van or a taxi to Wugongshi wharf, then take a 5 minutes' speedboat to Putuoshan. After landing on Putuo Airport, the bridge across the sea can lead you to the downtown of Zhoushan city. There are regular buses or taxis directly to Dinghai or Shenjiamen from Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport. It takes about 30 minutes from the airport to the city centre.

LPS Aviation Inc. provided assistance over a six year period for development of Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport. This new IFR airport features an 8,000 foot runway designed for B-757, MD-80, F-100 aircraft. It serves 1.5 million people in the Zhoushan Archipelago in the East China Sea near Shanghai. LPS provided airport planning, airspace and approach procedure planning, as well as electronic navigation equipment selection, installation and training services. A B-737 Maintenance Base design concept was also prepared and training was provided in domestic and international ATB layout and design techniques.

Thompson Aviation Transportation Systems has been responsible for the specification, procurement, installation and test of the Putuoshan Airport systems. The air navigation systems included an ILS (Localizer, GP and Markers), NDBs, VOR/DME, VHF radios, voice recorder, PABX and PAPI systems.

There are airlines from big cities such as Beijing, Xiamen, Shanghai to Zhoushan everyday. Zhoushan Port has opened more than 40 passenger lines including 5 rolling load lines to the mainland.
