General Information: Shenzhen is a newly-built seaside city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province of China. Separated from Hong Kong by a river in the South, the city starts from Lingding sea of Pear River Estuary.
Geography: Shenzhen faces the sea and is surrounded by mountains, higher in southeast, lower in northwest; they are mainly covered by hills with plains in the western area.
Climate: Subtropical maritime climate; annual average sunshine of 2,120 hours

Shenzhen Economy: Early in 1979, Shenzhen city and surrounding Bao'an County were reorganized into a special district called the New Shenzhen Municipality. Local officials were empowered to conclude ioint equity business ventures with firms in Hong Kong and Macao, and could do so without seeking the prior approval of Beijing. Shenzhen could also issue visas directly to foreign businesspeople. In May 1980, about one?sixth of the area of Shenzhen Municipality (320 sq. km.; 123 sq. mi.) was declared a "special economic zone"?one of three in Guangdong Province. With respect to this new status, Shenzhen's primary asset may be said to be its proximity to Hong Kong. By 1983, overseas Chinese investment in the special economic zone amounted to over $500 million, about 60% of which was in property- related projects, with the remainder in export?oriented assembly and processing industries and agricultural production to increase the supply of foodstuffs to Hong Kong and Macao. Since 1979, over 100 new economic projects have been started. These include garment factories, knitting mills, radio and automobile assembly plants, and a printing press. In one example a glove factory was established near the railway station. Its machinery, technicians, and foremen were sent from Hong Kong while the factory manager was assigned by China. Agricultural development projets focus on increasing the production of vegetables, lichees, citrus fruits, pineapples, and persimmons, and the expansion of hog, poultry, fish, oyster, and prawn breeding enterprises.
History: Shenzhen has an history of 6,000 years; used to be a stationed place when Baiyue Tribe going to sea in ancient times; an important hub of water and land trade in Southern China; also a salt origin and famous for its perfume.
Arrive: Shenzhen Airport is about 35 kilometers from downtown with 76 routes and flights connecting 41 major cities in the country. In addition, there are direct international flights to and from Bangkok, Singapore, and Jakarta. The Airport ranks No. 1 in the nation for its quality of services and No. 1 for it size.
