General Information: Siping is an industrial center, producing processed food, machinery, building materials, chemicals, textiles, metals, electricity, and pharmaceuticals.
Geography: Siping lies in the southwest of Jilin province. It's bounded on the east by the Changbai Mountain range, on the west by the Inner Mongolia Kerchin grasslands, on the north by Changchun, the capital of Jilin province, and on the south by Shenyang, an important city of the northeast.
Siping Economy: The economy of Siping City is based on the production of energy, machinery, chemical products and foodstuffs, with significant developments in the areas of electronics, medicine, light industry, textiles and building materials. It has more than 1,450 enterprises over township level, including 68 large and middle-sized enterprises. Particularly well-known are Siping's combines, wheel style loaders, remade trucks, plate heat-exchangers, tungsten products, slice assistance and maize starch. The agricultural resources of Siping City have dictated a pattern of developing farming, forestry, animal husbandry, fisheries and sideline industries. It's the key commodity grain base of the state and also the cattle and sheep production base. Maize, fruit trees and vegetable oil products are developing rapidly. Grain output is over 5 billion kilograms per year. Siping is the largest grower and exporter of maize in China. Its yearly output of vegetables is 630 million kilograms, meat, 270 million kilograms, eggs, 92 million kilograms, milk, 25 million kilograms and fruit, 52 million kilograms. The overall farm economy is developing rapidly. The well-known first village in China, Hongzui Agriculture-Industry-Commerce Combined Company lies right to the north of Siping city.
History: Siping, with its green mountains, clear water and picturesque scenery, is one of the places where the Manchu nationality originated. In 1947 a major battle took place in Siping during the Communist revolution, which ended in 1949, and there are several sites in the city commemorating the battle. Siping grew rapidly after the Communist government was established in 1949, and the city was designated a site for industrial development.
Arrive: It is conveniently located for transportation to and from any part of China. The railway lines of Ha-Da, Ping-Qi and Si-Mei cross in Siping City. There are 208 kilometers of train track in the city alone and the Siping railway station is one of the 38 large marshalling stations in China. Since the end of the 19th century, Siping has been the most important traffic hub in the northeast, with direct rail and road transportation to Russia, Mongolia and Korea. Highway: Siping is a highway crossroads. The Harbin to Dalian highway goes through the city, as do the Ji-Xi, Shen-Ming and Chang-Tong highways. With the completion of the Siping-Changchun expressway, it is only 70 minutes by car to the Changchun airport and less than 2 hours to Shenyang airport.
Siping Tourism: There are fascinating natural scenes and interesting cultural artefacts throughout Siping City. With the bright lakes, green trees and clear water, it's an ideal place for tourism.
Siping Attractive points: Siping Nanhu Park The famous half Shanmen Mountain cleaved by "Erlang God" was called the Willow Twig Door during the Qing dynasty. There are seven active volcanoes which legends attribute to seven stars fallen to the ground. Xiao Cigao, mother of Huangtaiji and the first empress of the Qing dynasty, was born in Siping. The original family home of Cixi, the last empress dowager of the Qing dynasty, was in Yehe ancient town in the south-east of Siping. There are not only cultural relics and historic scenic spots to visit but also natural scenic spots. Hada Mountain Range links Shilazi Mountain, Dajiazi Mountain and Tazi Mountain in a natural colored ribbon. The tourism areas, such as Erlong Lake, Zhuangshan Lake, Shanmen Reservoir and Xiashantai Reservoir, are like pearls on the colored ribbon.
