General Information:
Nestling among hills at the south western foot of the Changbai Mountains in south eastern Jilin Province, Tonghua is a mountain city with an enchanting landscape.

Geography:
Tonghua is located at the foot of Changbai Mountain in the east part of Jilin Province. As on of the three major ports, it faces the Democratic Republic of Korea across the Yalu River.

Climate:
Situated in the middle of the temperate zone, the city belongs to the mild continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons.

Nature:
There are over 100 species of wild economic fauna which are mainly forest frogs, sika deer, black bear, otter, lynx and sable.
There are 13 families of and over 1000 species of flora of which over 770 can be used for medicine such as ginseng, the buber of elevated gastrodia, the fruit of Chinese magnoliavine, the root of Chinese wild ginger, the bulb of fritillary, dangseng, the root of membranous milk vetch, root of many prickle acanthopanax, and high-mountain red-spotted stonecrop, etc.. There are over 100 kinds of edible flora such as fern, pleurotus, wild celery, platycodon root, yamazeri ,and day lily. The fungi include Jew's ear, round-capped mushroom, hedgehog hydnum. The flora used for industrial materials amount to over 30 kinds: mountain grape, mountain pear, hawthorn fruit, yangtao, large-fruited Chinese hawthorn, and fruit of Chinese magnoliavine.
Tonghua stands on the spreading area of the Changbai Mountains, with a highest elevation of 1,589 metres and a lowest elevation of 98 metres. Over one thousand of large and small rivers in the region are attached to two water systems: the Yalu River and Songhua River. The rich natural resources such as forest, wild economic fauna and flora, minerals, water and scenic spots constitute a cubic treasure-house of resources.
Tonghua is a treasure bank with rich natural resources. There are forest covers 830,000 hectare with 170 spices in it around the city which reserves wood material 75.12 million cube meters. It is one of the important forest area in Jilin Province. Herb resources are also rich here, there are 252 families, 596 genesis and 1133 kind of herbs all together.

Tonghua Economy:
The metallurgical industry with Tonghua Iron and Steel Company as the main body has a comprehensive productive ability, playing an important role in the province. The machinery industry mainly made up of petroleum machinery and mine machinery represents some unique features. The medicine industry, based on the medicinal resources of the Changbai Mountains, is gaining an advantage and becoming the pillar industry. The foodstuffs industry mainly composed of Tonghua Grape Wine and mountain delicacies enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. The textile products, relying mainly on artificial fur of superior quality and decorating material for clothing of high grade are dominating much larger market. The building materials industry, represented by products of marble and Songhua stone show a great potential for development.
The city has 45 enterprises of medicine and chemical reagents such as Tonghua Dongbao Industry and Commerce Group. Now, 21 forms of and 1600 kinds of drugs have obtained permission for production.
Mineral resources
The main mineral resources are iron, coal, gold, copper, graphite, boron, gymsum, limestone, volcanic sediments, and marble. 250 places have been verified to have a storage of marble with a reserve of over200 million cubic metres. The deposits of limestone amounts to over one billion tons. The reserves of volcanic sediments rank first in Jilin Province.

Arrive:
The highways extend in all directions and form a network which is mainly composed of Siping-Hunchun Highway, Ji'an-Xilinhaote(in Inner Mongolia)Highway, Hegang-Dalian Highway, Heihe (in Heilongjiang Province) Dalian Highway and Yingkou-Fusun Highway and which links three provinces in the Northeast and lead to the Pass Shanhaiguan and the Bohai Sea. The railways here can lead directly to Beijing, Qingdao, Dalian, Shenyang, and Changchun. The airline from Tonghua Airport to Beijing is opened.

Tonghua Tourism:
Tonghua city has green mountains and clear waters, special natural landscape, human scenic spots, and rich resources of tourism. It is a transit station leading to the heaven Pool on the top of changbai mountain. There are four National Forest Parks within the territory of Tonghua. Longwan Crater lake Group is the biggest Crater Lake Group of China in the area of Donghua, Gaogouli historic. National major historical and cultural sites under state protection, Already been up to 2000 from today. The general Tomb of them. magnificent scale, unique form, is well known as the "orient pyramid, was built up with huge sized granite blocks.

Shopping:
In the city proper stands the Medicine Mansion, a trade centre for medicinal products with a building area of 17000 square metres.

Tonghua Attractive points:
The ancient Gaogouli (Korean) remains such as Wandu Mountain Town, Haotaiwang (the Great King) Stele and the General's Tomb are historical and cultural scenes. The General Tomb is called the Eastern Pyramid. In the proper of Tonghua City, there is a Martyr Cemetery where the hero of fighting against Japanese, Martyr Yang Jing-yu is buried.
