China Zhangjiakou City:
Zhangjiakou  General Information:Zhangjiakou is a famous city north of the Great Wall, 180 km to Beijing in the north and 280 km to Tianjin. Geography:Zhangjiakou, situated in northwest Hebei Province, connects the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region to the north with neighbouring Datong, a coal base, to the west and with Beijing, 199 kilometers to the southeast.  Zhangjiakou Economy:Energy is the foundation of Zhangjiakou's industrial economy. Zhangjiakou's industrial system includes machinery, metallurgy, chemicals, light and textile industries, coal, building material, leather, fur, brewing and foodstuffs. The suburbs, with their advanced agricultural techniques, are an important source of vegetables for the Beijing market. The White Milk Grape is well-known and has been cultivated in the area for over 800 years History:Located at a gate in the Great Wall of China, the city has historically been a communications and commercial link between Beijing and Inner Mongolia. A fort was built here in the early 15th century during the Ming dynasty to serve as a defense against Mongol attacks. After another fort was built in the early 17th century a town began to develop. As the terminus of a caravan route to Mongolia, it carried on a substantial trade. The city was opened to Russian trade in 1860 and was reached by railroad in 1911. Trade declined after the Russian Revolution. The city, occupied by the Japanese in 1937, was made an administrative center. The Beijing-Baotou and Datong-Beijing railways cross the city proper. With the city as a hub, 4 national highways and 8 provincial-level highways radiate in all directions.
