Zhangjiakou Economy:
Energy is the foundation of Zhangjiakou's industrial economy. The Zhangjiakou General Power Plant, with an installed capacity of 2.88 million kw, is one of the largest thermal power plants in north China. Zhangjiakou's industrial system includes machinery, metallurgy, chemicals, light and textile industries, coal, building material, leather, fur, brewing and foodstuffs.
The suburbs, with their advanced agricultural techniques, are an important source of vegetables for the Beijing market. The White Milk Grape is well-known and has been cultivated in the area for over 800 years

History:
Located at a gate in the Great Wall of China, the city has historically been a communications and commercial link between Beijing and Inner Mongolia. A fort was built here in the early 15th century during the Ming dynasty to serve as a defense against Mongol attacks. After another fort was built in the early 17th century a town began to develop. As the terminus of a caravan route to Mongolia, it carried on a substantial trade. The city was opened to Russian trade in 1860 and was reached by railroad in 1911. Trade declined after the Russian Revolution. The city, occupied by the Japanese in 1937, was made an administrative center.

Arrive:
Zhangjiakou is a communication pivot linking Beijing, Shanxi Province, Hebei Province and the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. The Beijing-Baotou and Datong-Beijing railways cross the city proper. With the city as a hub, 4 national highways and 8 provincial-level highways radiate in all directions.

Zhangjiakou Tourism:
Its unique tourist resources mainly consist of the magnificent Great Wall, scenic grasslands and the three ancestors' culture of Yan Di, Huang Di and Chiyou.

Zhangjiakou Attractive points:
The historical site of the ancient battlefield in Zhuolu, the site where the Yellow Emperor fed horses with water, the Yellow Emperor Spring, Chiyou Village and Chiyou Tomb, and the Three Ancestors' Hall to Yan Di, and Yellow Emperor and Chiyou are the ideal places for domestic and foreign Chinese to look for their roots, offer sacrifices to the ancestors and understand the ancient culture.
