The Buildings of Expo 2010 Shanghai
EXPO AXIS, EXPO CENTER, EXPO PERFORMANCES, EXPO PAVILIONS
The Shanghai Expo pavilions are over 300, in fact more than 200 countries and more than 60 international organizations are participating in the Shanghai Expo 2010. There are three large buildings in a organizational support : Expo Axis, Expo Center, Performance Center. The pavilions are subdivided in six groups: Theme Pavilions, Zone A, Zone B, Zone C, Zone D, Zone E. Since the early days of the exhibition, theme pavilions are arousing great interest. The principal theme pavilions are five and explore different aspects of urban development: Urbanian Pavilion, Pavilion of City Being, Pavilion of Urban Planet, Pavilion of Footprint, Pavilion of Future.
National pavilions
The foreign pavilions most appreciated are Russia Pavilion, Seed Cathedral, Vietnam pavilion, Monaco Pavilion, Oman Pavilion, Nepal pavilion, Iceland Pavilion, Saudi Pavilion. The National pavilions include these countries: Vietnam, Venezuela, United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, The Netherlands, Thailand, Sweden, Spain, South Korea, Solomon Islands, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Romania, Poland, Philippines, Pakistan, Pacific Pavilion, Oman, Norway, North Korea, New Zealand, Nepal, Mexico, Malta, Malaysia, Macau, Japan, Italy, Israel, Ireland, Indonesia, India, Iceland, Hong Kong, Greece, Germany, France, Finland, Denmark, Cook Islands, China, Canada, Brunei, Brazil, Belgium, Australia.
Expo Axis
Expo Axis is the largest building of Shanghai Expo and is the world's largest membrane construction. The construction is composed from steel-glass funnels and is covered by a membrane 1000 meters long and 110 meters wide. Expo Axis is located in the central area of Pudong and is connected to four permanent buildings: Expo Center, Performance Center, China Pavilions and Theme Pavilions. The Expo Axis has two floors below ground and two above. The building is both a wide commercial center (with catering and entertainment facilities) and a traffic hub wich provides visitors efficient ways to enter the exhibition pavilions and all sectors of Shanghai Expo.
China Pavilion Expo 2010
The China Pavilion is the first edifice that you come by entering the Pudong Section. The main building of the China Pavilion is 'The Crown of the East' namely a characteristic structure with traditional roof made of traditional wooden arches or brackets. This is one of the most important elements in traditional Chinese architecture. The China pavilion has the principal exhibition area on the top floor, the main experience area on the second floor and a functional area on the first. The primary theme of the China Pavilion displays the achievements in urban development from ancient to future times.
Expo Center
The Expo Center (seven-story, 142,000-square-meter) is the principal venue for ceremonies, conferences, conventions and after the Expo 2010 also will host important forums and events. The perfect sound isolation allows the simultaneous execution of more shows and events. The main hall contains 2,600-seats and may hold important international events, for example at the end of the Expo (in October) this hall will hold a summit forum among world's national leaders. The main hall can also become a theatre for performances and concerts, and can also hold spectacles and audiences like main hall of the Shanghai Grand Theatre. The Expo Center building has other four large halls for performances, banquets and conferences.
Performance Center
The Performance Center is located in Zone B and has a floor-space of about 45.000 square meters.This building is a multifunctional structure for celebrations, variety performances, congregations, food and entertainment events.
