The Pavilions of Shanghai World Expo 2010
THE FIVE THEME PAVILIONS
The theme pavilions are five and are located in Zone B. Their names are: Urban Being Pavilion, Urban Life Pavilion, Urban Planet Pavilion, Urban Civilization Pavilion and Future Pavilion, corresponding to the five sub-themes of Shanghai Expo 2010. The building of theme pavilions is located at the Expo Axis, in front of the China pavilion. The structure covers an area of 12 hectares and is the largest example of its kind in the history of world expositions. The space dedicated to exhibitions is 80.000 sqm. A multifunctional room of 7.000 sqm has a very modern reception hall that connects the various individual pavilions.
Urban Footprints Pavilion
The pavilion describes the expansion of the cities as a decisive factor for human progress of all time. The Shanghai Museum has contributed to the development of the idea and to design of the pavilion.
Urban Planet pavilion
The exhibition features the double character of the city, as both a consumer of environment and as a place of technologic innovation for an ecological renewal in the future.
Urban Dwellers Pavilion
This exhibition examines the inhabitants of modern cities and aims to affirm the principle that the town planners should address the urgent needs of their inhabitants as "the precondition for the sustainable development of the cities."
Urban Beings Pavilion
The pavillion describes the development of the infrastructure of modern cities, considering the traffic and the provision of water and energy as key elements of the urban 'organism'.
Urban Dreams Pavilion
The pavilion is inspired by an imaginary journey into the future, with special space devoted to the possibilities of creating a hospitable city through a combination of technological progress and tradition.
