The climate in Shanghai is mostly mild and humid. The climate is classified by meteorologists as subtropical monsoon maritime. Autumn and spring are the seasons when the climate is more comfortable. From March to May and from September to mid November the weather is nice, so these months are the best time to visit Shanghai.
July and August are the months with the higher temperature. In these two months, the temperature can reach 35 degrees centigrade. The coldest period usually coincides with the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) and runs from late January to mid February. During this period the climate can be very cold but generally without snow.
Every year there is a period of heavy rain that lasts about a month and usually falls between mid-June and mid July: during the "Plum Rain Season" in Shanghai a few days it rains 25% of rain falling throughout the year. From late August to mid September is the period of the typhoon that rarely come to Shanghai, but in Shanghai they can lead to short periods of abundant rainfall. |
