139-meter Thermometer Built in E. China City

A 139-meter-high thermometer, built at a cost of two million yuan (US$241,000), has beenput into use in Nanchang, capital city of east China's Jiangxi Province. The thermometer, composed of high-tech light diode, uses green light as the background, and red and orange lights to display the mercury column and the scale, respectively. The thermometer, which operates between 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. every day, has an operational lifespan of a maximum of 15 years, according to designers. The thermometer may be the highest in the world, said the designers, of the Nanchang city office for modernizing the Qingshan Lake area. |
