13 countries confirmed to join Shanghai World Expo

Yang Xiong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, disclosed on the 24th that at present 13 countries, including France, Ukraine and Canada, and some international organizations have confirmed to attend the 2010 Shanghai World Expo while many other countries and international organizations are in talks.
Yang, who is also the deputy director of the Shanghai Expo Executive Committee, indicated that these 13 countries include France, Ukraine, Bahrain, Mali, Cambodia, Canada, Mauritania, Algeria, Congo, Hungary, Switzerland, New Zealand and Cuba; besides, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity has also confirmed to participate in the Expo.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao signed the invitation letter of Shanghai World Expo on March 22nd.
Yang revealed that many countries and international organizations are now actively communicating and consulting with Shanghai and some countries have appointed a Commissioner General of the Shanghai World Expo and started initial negotiations with the organizer of Shanghai World Expo to nail down relevant affairs. |
