Ace Hardware sets up first China distribution warehouse in Shanghai

Ace Hardware Corporation, the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the United States, opened its first China distribution warehouse in Shanghai on Thursday.
The warehouse is located in the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Bonded Logistics Park, in the Pudong District, and covers 15,000 square feet.
It was initially planned to hold 1,000 varieties of hardware from more than 50 suppliers.
The warehouse will enable Ace Hardware to meet the demands of international retailers without first transferring goods to the United States.
It would also cut costs by shortening the time needed for deliveries, said Ray Griffith, president and chief executive officer of Ace Hardware.
The warehouse is managed by the Ace Global Distribution (Shanghai) International Trading Co., Ltd., a new Ace Hardware company registered in the Pudong District.
Ace Hardware Corporation operates more than 4,600 hardware stores in 70 countries worldwide. Its turnover in 2005 exceeded 3.3 billion U.S. dollars. It buys 100 million U.S. dollars of goods each year in China.
