20-Jan-2006 - Xinhuanet |
With approval from the State Council, the airport in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province, will open to foreign flights after an upgrading project, the provincial government said here Thursday.
The airport will open air routes to Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and southeast Asian countries starting from this year, said Jin Longkun, deputy director of the Guizhou Economic and Trade Commission, at a press conference on Thursday.
Guizhou will also apply for an air link to Taiwan, Jin said.
Before the upgrade, the airport was only open to domestic and chartered flights by Chinese airways, according to Jin.
Traffic volume at the airport in 2005 exceeded 3 million passengers, 1.6 million more than in 2000, said Li Xiangchun, chairman of the board of Guizhou Airport Group.
