24-Sep-2004 - |
The maiden flight between Shenzhen and Bangkok took off at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday (Sep. 22nd) with 85 people aboard. The service is the second international flight out of Shenzhen scheduled for Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The flight time is two hours and 40 minutes. The Bangkok Airways Boeing 717 aircraft can accommodate 125 passengers. Thailand is one of the first countries to open to Chinese tourists and has been a popular destination for Shenzhen people. A direct flight between Shenzhen and Singapore was launched in early January and a Shenzhen-Macao-Taipei flight was started in March. Shenzhen also has cargo flights to the United States, South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia. Statistics show that for the first half of this year, 636,483 international passengers and 3,369 flights went through the Shenzhen airport, an increase of 99 percent and 56 percent over the same period last year. An airport company source said this year could also see a Shenzhen-Kuala Lumpur flight and a Shenzhen-Shanghai-Osaka flight open. |
