|
13-Apr-2005 - Xinhua |
China's beauty industry registered an output of 220 billion yuan in 2004, enjoying an annual growth rate of 28 percent for the past two years, according to a government report.
The growth rate was 14.7 percent higher than that for the total social retail sales, said the report jointly released by the Ministry of Commerce and the State Council Development and Research Center on Wednesday.
The report said that in the past 20 years, the beauty industry has developed into a multi-layer industry, covering sectors ranging from skin treatment, hair dressing to cosmetics manufacturing, plastic surgery and professional training.
Currently, there are 1.72 million beauty parlors across the country, employing 16 million people. Ninety-three percent of these parlors are not state-owned, said the report.
