Beijing to Improve Roads
|
16-Jul-2004 - |
Beijing has started a program that aims to improve the city's major roads to fight against the mounting problem of traffic congestion.
The capital plans to rebuild a total of 75 cloverleaf intersections by October this year.
The development scheme will also make full use of all remaining space under traffic bridges and construct more lanes while removing greenbelts and parking lots to provide more room for expansion.
Meanwhile, the municipal transportation committee is rebuilding some overpass exits and entrances based on more efficient designs.
Road markings will be repainted and more road signs and traffic lights are expected to be put up.
With the increasing number of vehicles on Beijing's streets, traffic jams and car-related injuries are becoming one of the city's top concerns.
