Business confidence keeps rising

China's business confidence index reached 135.9 points in the first quarter of 2005, up 5.1 points over the last quarter of 2004, according to a report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday.
The result comes from a quarterly survey of 19,500 companies of various kinds. The new index declined by 2.9 points from the same period of last year.
The NBS survey showed that the confidence index in mining sector declined 1.5 points over the fourth quarter last year to 169.6 points, the highest among all industries.
The Confidence index in the remaining sectors such as manufacturing, construction, transportation, postal service, retail and wholesale have all gone up to various extents.
Meanwhile, the confidence index in companies, either state-owned, collective, private, share-holding or solely foreign invested, also reported hikes.
The business confidence index for large, medium-sized and small enterprises registered at 151.0, 127.5 and 121.2 points separately, up 3.3, 4.9 and 7.7 points over the previous quarter respectively.
