Children Flock to Bird Week Event
|
3-Apr-2002 - |
Over 100 children swarmed into a forest park last Monday in east China's Fujian Province to celebrate the 21st anniversary of China's Week of Loving Birds. The day started with 10 birds under state protection, including herons and sparrow hawks, being set free in the State Forest Park of Fuzhou City. The birds had all been treated by a local bird hospital after being injured. After the birds flew away, the children began to paint on a picture scroll 100 meters long. Zhang Xiaoqian, who made a painting about people and birds, said that she wished the two could live in harmony forever. Some other children even hung up their handmade nests in trees, calling on people to protect birds. And four-year-old Li Jiasen kept throwing food for birds into the air, happily watching pigeons flying low around him. The first Week of Loving Birds started in 1981 and is widely honored by the Chinese to help protect wild animals. |
