Wuhu Huaqiang Amusement Park is currently under construction in the suburb of Wuhu, Anhui Province. The investors have invested 7 billion yuan (US$890 million) on this project, hoping it will become China's largest theme park when it opens in October 2007. The investors of this "Disneyland of Chinese mainland" hope 5 million tourists will visit it annually.
Covering an area of 3 million sq m, the park has invited Edward Inskeep, a renowned expert from World Tourism Organization to be its top planning consultant. A British design company Scott Wilson, Ltd. is in charge of the specific design work.
According to the investors, the park will later develop into three parts, including a high-tech ecological park with full intellectual property rights, a modern community with comprehensive auxiliary projects like artificial forests.
Currently the construction of the park, including 14 amusement projects, has cost nearly 2 billion yuan ($260 million). At least 9 projects are expected to be accomplished before the park opens next year. |
