Senior officials and tourism ministers from all 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as well as neighboring China, Japan, South Korea and India have gathered in Bangkok for a regional tourism forum. It's aimed at boosting tourism and bringing more international tourists into the region.
The tourism forum is aimed at boosting tourism and bringing more international tourists into the region.
According to China's National Tourism Administration, the estimated number of visitors to China from ASEAN countries in 2007 was 4.91 million, an increase of over 25% from the previous year. ASEAN tourists made up about 19% of the total number of tourists. The estimated number of trips taken from China to ASEAN countries totalled 3.58 million in 2007, an increase of 20%. This accounted for 8.7% of the total number of outbound trips from China, though the figures do not take into account the fact that Chinese visitors often visit several countries on the same trip.
China is to provide two exhibition booths for each ASEAN country during this year's China International Travel Mart which will be held from November 20th to 23rd in Shanghai. China will also host a workshop for officials from the national tourism organizations of ASEAN countries in the first quarter of this year.
Officials from China's tourism industry urged the ASEAN countries to make joint efforts to attract tourists from outside the region through promotional campaigns. China and ASEAN have agreed to draw upon each other's strengths to provide better services for tourists. |
