China Southern makes history
|
7-Jul-2004 - |
In a landmark development for China's aviation scene, China Southern will soon make history by putting two China-made aircraft into service on domestic routes. The country's largest airline has taken delivery of the first two Sino-Brazilian ERJ145 regional turbofan jets. The aircraft were built by Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry Company, a joint venture established by AviChina's subsidiaries Harbin Aviation Industry Group and Hafei Aviation Industry Company with Brazil's Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica. Economists and aviation experts say hundreds of smaller aircraft to link smaller regional cities of two to three million people to larger centres which are regional aviation hubs are needed. Estimates published in China tip the country will need around 600 regional aircraft in the coming 20 years, a third of the demand in Asia-Pacific. By 2019, regional aircraft in China's air transportation will have surged from 12 to 26 per cent. |
