China criticizes EU antidumping probe
|
28-Jun-2005 - Xinhua |
China on Monday criticized the European Union's plan to launch an antidumping probe on Chinese shoe exports, calling it a violation of free trade.
China believes the EU has based its probe on inaccurate data, the Commerce Ministry said in a statement posted on its Web site.
"The EU's intention to adopt a new round of safeguards against Chinese shoes violates the principles of free trade," the ministry said.
The ministry said it wants the EU to present correct data to the public in order to clear up the misunderstanding and avoid trade conflicts.
It said that the EU reported on June 8 that shoe imports from China during the first four months of this year increased 581 percent from a year earlier when measured per unit, and rose 433 percent by value.
But the ministry said its data showed the amount of China's shoe exports to the EU rose just 22.8 percent in the same period when measured by unit, and just 59.5 percent when measured by value, the statement said.
The EU's antidumping investigation on Chinese shoes is scheduled to begin at the end of this month.
