China's first "urban transportation hub" shopping mall completed construction in Shanghai recently. It is located at the crossroads of two major subway lines in the city. This giant business establishment with an area of 320,000 square meters is the largest shopping center in a single architectural structure ever seen in Shanghai.

Initiated in Japan, an "urban transportation hub" commercial establishment is usually an integration of a large-scale public transport hub with a business center, and can serve as a transfer station, a shopping center, a recreation center, and even a seat of commerce and a hotel building. This pattern of "transportation hub plus business center" has been booming in many metropolises of the world in recent years.

This 320,000sqm shopping mall is composed of a variety of commercial facilities, such as large department stores, hypermarkets, restaurants, book cities and cinemas. Daily necessity brands and specialty shops alone exceed 1,800 in number, accounting for about 50% of 3,600-odd famous international brands in Shanghai. In addition, the 12th to the 60th floor of the building consist of 24,000 square meters of offices and 44,000 square meters of five-star hotels. After it starts operation, this "urban transportation hub" shopping mall is expected to record 5 billion yuan (US$617 million) in annual sales.
