China's indoor environment purification industry exceeds US$1 bln

Continually emerging products for indoor atmosphere purification have created a booming new industry in China, with an industrial volume of 10 billion yuan (1.2 billion US dollars).
This was announced at the first symposium on the development of the industry hosted Wednesday by China National Interior Decoration Association (CIDA) and relevant governmental departments.
Chinese people attach increasing importance to indoor pollution, and the government has set national standards for indoor air quality. The market for indoor air purification products has therefore been formed and developed, said Song Guangsheng, director of the CIDA Indoor Environment Test Center.
According to a survey by CIDA, the total market value of indoor environmental purification products reached 8 billion yuan in 2003, and the profit margin of the industry was 28 percent, sharply higher than the average profit margin.
The association predicted that the industry would undergo rapid growth in the next few years and maintain a growth rate of 28 percent.
The indoor environmental purification industry enjoys rapid growth internationally as well. The Japanese government has predicted that the future market potential of the industry will reach 100 billion US dollars.
